Be Careful Little Tongue

How you talk determines your future? You must be wondering, what is this new concept regarding the future. This is nothing new, but very crucial towards living a happy life; “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech” (1 Peter 3:10). The person who keeps his mouth rules his speech; the person who opens wide his lips does not. Guarding your words will save you and talking freely will destroy you. The lesson is simple but the consequences are great.

In a village, there was a shepherd boy. Everyday he used to tend the herd of cows. The shepherd was a naughty child. One day, he was herding his cows in a pasture. Suddenly, he cried out, "help me, there is a Tiger". The villagers who heard the cry of the boy, ran with sticks to the pastures to save the boy. But when they arrived, he laughed and said, “there is no Tiger here”. Next day, the boy repeated the same trick. And the villagers came back to save the boy and cow. But the boy laughed and said, “there is no Tiger”. The villagers went back angrily. Until one day, a real Tiger came. He started to cry. The villagers heard the cry of the boy, but they thought it was the hoax shepherd boy again. So they remained silent in the village and didn’t go out to help the boy. Poor boy and all his cows were devoured by the Tiger.
SCRIPTURE to LIFE

If you lie, then your life will be in danger. Therefore, strive to speak the truth. In the Bible, we read about a discussion that Jesus was having with the Jews on - whose children Jesus’ opponents are and this what Jesus replies “When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). The devil is the father of lies and whoever lies belongs to him. You and I belong to God, our Heavenly Father. So we have to be careful of how and what we speak. You have to be very cautious with your speech, or you can destroy yourself by speaking impulsively without careful and godly prudence.
Prayer:
Almighty God, I thank you for Your words to direct my ways in life. Grant me divine wisdom to speak cautiously and never be haste in my speech. I ask pardon for all the wrong words used and speaking in a manner that caused pain to others. May I always be truthful in what I speak.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
