Songs of deliverance

The Lord has been sufficient for us throughout these past 10 months of this year. He has protected you and your family, hiding you beneath His wings. He has taken care of all your needs. Why don’t you praise Him with all of your heart, mind and soul?  Let us join with David to say for this new month November looking to God, “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance” (Psalm 32:7). According to this verse, the Lord will be your refuge and will not allow any harm to come near you. Even if cruel people rage against you, He will be your strength, hope and shelter (Isaiah 25:4).

In 1875, Ira Sankey was travelling on a Delaware River steamboat when some of the passengers recognized him, as he was the song leader for the famous evangelist D.L. Moody. They asked him to sing one of his own hymns, but Sankey preferred to sing William B. Bradbury's hymn, “Saviour like a shepherd lead us.” As he sang, one of the stanzas began, “We are Thine; do Thou befriend us. Be the Guardian of our way.” When he finished, a man stepped from the shadows and asked, “Did you ever do picket duty in the Union Army on a bright moonlit night in 1862?” “Yes,” Mr. Sankey answered, very much surprised. “So did I, but I was serving in the Confederate Army. When I saw you standing at your post, I thought to myself, ‘that fellow will never get away alive.’ I raised my musket and took aim at you. I was standing in the shadow, completely concealed, while the full light of the moon was falling upon you. At that instant, just as a moment ago, you raised your eyes to heaven and began to sing.  I said to myself, ‘I can shoot him afterwards. He would be my victim.  My bullet cannot miss him.’ But the song you sang then was the song you sang just now. I heard the words perfectly, “We are Thine; do Thou befriend us. Be the Guardian of our way.”  Those words stirred up many childhood memories with my God-fearing mother. She had many times sung that song to me. When you had finished your song, it was impossible for me to take aim again. I thought, ‘The Lord who is able to save that man from certain death must surely be great and mighty.’ And my arm of its own accord dropped limp at my side.”
How beautifully God led him to sing the right words, which melted the heart of the enemy! Beloved, do not be afraid.  The shadow of the Most High would cover you from all harm (Psalm 91:1 – 4). According to the verse “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms…” (Deut.33:27), this month the Lord will protect you underneath His arms and be your refuge.
Prayer:
Dear Father, I thank You for Your love that guards me all my way. I rest in Your amazing unconditional love.  Provide me with timely wisdom and discernment of spirit.  You are greater in me than he that is in the world.  Cover me and my family that You have given, under Your mighty feathers. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
