Good Gifts

God loves to bless his children! He has blessed us this far that we may acknowledge his greatness and His love toward us.  Scripture denotes that “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.” (James 1:17). We have family and friends who present us gifts on occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries. Though we value their presents, does it always benefit us? Only God is the giver of good and perfect gifts. When we ponder on the word “gift” we can understand that it is an act of giving and so we are certain that out Lord is the giver. Jesus says in John 16:24 “Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete”. When we receive the blessings from our Lord, our joy will be complete. In order to receive God’s gifts we ought to ask him through the mighty name of our Lord Jesus.

Our Lord blesses us in this world with good health and wealth that adds no sorrow. “The blessing of the LORD makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it” (Proverbs 10:22). However, we tend to ask Him more than what we deserve. God expects us to ask Him for the gifts of the Holy Spirit that we may become a channel of blessing to numerous people. God never lets us down. We fail Him but He never fails us.. The only reason is His grace that allows us to walk on this earth. He never charges us for anything. We do not pay Him for the goodness that He bestows on us.
In the perishing world that we live, what do we benefit with riches and health? Bible says “Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.” (Psalm 90:10). Jesus has said, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). The perfect gift that we have received from our Lord is the eternal life! What do you want? Is it low, shallow, thin gifts? No! Go for full joy! And remember what the writer of Hebrews tells us “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it” (Hebrew 12:11).

With regard to God’s gifts, expect the unexpected. Most of the greatest gifts and deepest joys that God gives us come wrapped in painful packages. Keep your eyes on God and trust Him that you may be able to inherit His perfect gifts.
Loving Lord Jesus, I thank you for your grace that refreshes me every morning. Today, I seek You with all of my heart and soul. Bless me, my family and guide us in Your ways that we fulfil your commandments. Let all the good gifts be showered upon my family. Make us glad for all the days of affliction that we have gone through. In Jesus mighty name I pray, Amen.
