In a family, when the children and husband walk in darkness, how can the wife lead that family towards Chirst?
Today, this kind of question has cropped up in the heart of several sisters. They accept Jesus as their personal Saviour and commit their lives to live for Him. When in such families, the husband and children indulge in things that are displeasing to the Lord, what are the ways to be followed by the wife?
First of all, cast all your cares upon Him (the Lord) (I Peter 5:7), since He cares for you. Also, it is good that godly women change their lives into something pleasing to the Lord.
‘I beseech you … that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service’ (Romans 12:1).
This is the first step! You should have deep fellowship with the Lord. A divine prayer life of always talking to Him! A divine life of always rejoicing in the presence of God by seeking Him incessantly! Every wife/mother should receive these and live an abundant life. Examine your life as to, ‘Am I doing this reasonable service?’
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2)
According to this Scripture, get united with the Lord, being transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then the Lord will be delighted with you. This is the first thing that you ought to do.
The Lord Jesus was a living example to us. Hence the Bible says that we should follow His steps (I Peter 2:21). In order that our heart would not accuse us, let us commit ourselves fully to live a life pleasing to Christ. ‘Fully’ means, waiting in the presence of the Lord cent percent and receiving the fullness of His mercy and grace.
Next, it is very, very important that like Esther, we should humble ourselves and fast and pray for everyone who is in the darkness. Though Esther was an ordinary woman, when she felt responsible to save her people, she did this first. She humbled herself to dust and fasted and prayed day and night in the presence of the Lord, for three days. Hence, she got favour in the eyes of the Lord and He beautifully fulfilled what she wanted. So, like Esther, you too may humble yourself, shun food and wait at the feet of God in fasting. It is wrong to go for work or indulge in some other things, saying that you are fasting. Fasting means, you should go into your room, shut the door and interact with the Lord through prayer.
In my life, during a tough trial, the Lord led me to fast and pray thus and depend on Him. I used to interact with God from 9.30 in the morning to 5.00 in the evening. I used to pour out my agonizing heart, drench my pillow with tears and wait in His presence. After that a strong faith would rise up in me. ‘The Lord hears our prayers (Psalm 65:2); So, He will surely answer my prayer...’ - As this faith rose up in me, even without my knowledge I would open my mouth and keep thanking Him saying, “Lord, Praise You; You are with me; What more do I need? I believe that You would change this painful thing in my life”. As I thus kept praising Him, a great joy rose in me. When I thus kept praying incessantly, the Lord did a miracle and wiped away my tears. He perfected everything for the good, much to everyone’s amazement.
He, who heard the prayers of Esther and He, who helped me by answering my tear-filled prayers, will surely help you. So, when you pray for your family earnestly, you may humble yourself, interact with Him alone and pour out your tears in the Lord’s presence, with fasting (Revelation 7:17; 21:4).
To be successful in this, you ought to follow one important thing - You should glorify the Lord with praises. Let us meditate on it elaborately.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6,7)
These verses have a profound meaning. It is said there, ‘don’t be anxious for anything’. But, how many women are without anxiety? Perhaps you may pray to God or others may pray for you and you may unburden your worries at His feet; yet if you get filled with the same worries, it shows your unbelief. Today, many sisters do this mistake. They hold on to their worries firmly. When we receive the blessing in faith, we should never give room for the same worries. Make known your anxieties to Him with thanksgiving, with the prayer, “Lord, I believe that You are mighty, full of love and grace. You know about my burden regarding my family. Let Your power be manifested on them...” when you open your mouth and do this, with a heart overflowing with praises, the Lord will increase the faith in you. The faith, ‘"With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible"(Matthew 19:26; Mark 10:27) would increase in you.
In my life, on many occasions, when I was troubled, like Abraham, I used to confess, ‘God, who calls those things which do not exist as though they did’ (Romans 4:17). I had been amazed by the miraculous leading of the Lord, whenever I did like that.
Yes, dear ones, God is with you. When you walk pleasing to Him, He will surely answer your cries. I have enjoyed several such miracles in my life. He will do so for you as well. So, in the midst of lacks, when your family people are heading towards horrible directions, and when everything seems to go against you, your prayer of faith would be heard and you would see mighty miracles. We read in the Bible how beautifully the Lord, who chose the Israelites, led them. Likewise, the Lord, who has chosen you as His own, would accept your praises as a sweet smelling aroma and make you see signs and wonders.
“Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; And to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God." (Psalm 50:23)
Next, an important thing is that when we pray for our family, the Lord’s power should come down in order that they should be delivered from the darkness. How should we pray for that? We need to pray with the anointing of the Holy Spirit and being fervent in the spirit. Then you would be led wonderfully by the Holy Spirit (I John 2:27). So, don’t be satisfied by praying in the spirit for merely 5 minutes. It is necessary that you are fervent in the spirit day and night and pray for your family with tears. Today, hardly realizing these, many sisters keep accusing their husband or children. There is no use in talking like that. The Lord alone can give answers to all your pleas.
My dear sisters, keep all these in your mind and first get established in your relationship with the Lord. Follow the things such as godliness, holiness, prayer, Bible reading and testimonial life and first humble yourself in the presence of the Lord. Then He would be delighted over you. After that you may practise the above mentioned things, with the help of the Lord. Then He will build your house (Proverbs 24:3). Yes, He will help your house to get established as the house built on the rock, enable you to live well and make everyone of you into a good testimony (Matthew 7:14). So, seek the Lord as a family and commit yourself to Him. The Lord will fill you with His divine grace and lead you with these blessings!
