In this world, when some wrongs are done, people keep them in their heart and eagerly wait for a chance to take revenge. But, our Lord is quite the opposite. When a sinner comes to Him confessing his sins, He is ready to forgive and forget them (Isaiah 1:18). He washes them with His blood and cleanses them and gives them a new life (Isaiah 38:17; Micah 7:19). When we consider the heart of God, it is the home of everything pleasant, like mercy, grace and abundance of forgiveness. The Psalmist says in Psalm 86:5 that He is “good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon him”

Once there lived a prodigal son who did not obey his father. One day, he abused his father using very bad words and went to a far off place. He joined with bad friends and squandered all his money. Slowly his friends left him one by one. He began to realize his folly when he had no food to eat. He thought about his father and his true love. Immediately, he wrote a letter to his father. “Father, I am not worthy enough to call you as my father. But, I do realize my mistakes. As I write this letter, I am not sure if you will accept me as your son. One of these days, I will be travelling in the train that passes by our house. If you are willing to take me back, tie a white flag on the top of the tree in front of our house. On seeing it I would know that you have forgiven my sins and would accept me as your son. Or else, I will end my life immediately.” The letter broke the father’s heart. He said, “I am happy that my son has agreed to come home and it is more than enough for me.” So, he did not tie one flag but many white flags on the tree. He thought if I tie just one flag and if my son missed seeing it, what would happen to his life? As the son was travelling in the train he saw many white flags on the tree and it broke his heart. He realized how great his father’s heart was! He came running to his father and embraced him.
Dearly beloved! This is the love of an ordinary father towards His son. Just imagine how much of love our heavenly Father will have on us (John 3:16; Ephesians 5:2). The Bible shows us that our Lord also delights in forgiving His children.  We read the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32 where it says the father saw him and while his son was still a long way off him, he felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. That is the love of our Heavenly Father. If you are found lost in the sins of this world and struggling to find hope, the Lord says to you “I will thoroughly purge away your dross and remove all your impurities.” (Isaiah 1:25). He will search you and find you and when He finds you, He will lay you over His shoulder. (Luke 15:3-7). So, surrender yourself to Jesus and ask Him to forgive your sins. You will surely have a new beginning.
Precious Saviour! Today, like that prodigal son I come to take refuge under Your mighty wings. Forgive me and forget all my sins and wrongs. Accept me as Your child. I thank You for doing so. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. AMEN.
