Honor Your Father And Your Mother

In today’s, modern and trending world; the parents who are the basic foundation of a family, have been put in the rear seat. Children are disrespectful, towards their parents and ignore the sound advise that they receive from them. I want you to focus on, what the Bible affirms, “Listen, to your father’s instructionand do not forsake your mother’s teaching” (Proverbs 1:8).

Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, till the age of 30 years, was with His parents helping and supporting them in all their works; before He undertook the ministry. He always honored His parents (Luke 2:51). Jesus, led an exemplary life and you too should follow Him.
Michael Chang won the championship for French Open Tennis tournament, at a young age of 17 years. Owing to the recent achievement, he was interviewed by various journalists. And in one such interview he shared the secret of his happiness and said, “ One important person in my success journey is my father. He never left me, always accompanied me, wherever I went for practice. He always took me to Church on Sundays. He educated me on our Savior Jesus Christ. Also, he would not hesitate to point out my flaws. I have listened to my coach’s advise but simultaneously I would equally be obedient to my father; thus heeding his advise too. And that’s the reason, God honored me in the sports of Tennis. My joy knew no bound”.

Yes! My dear friends, when you obey your parents and give them the due respect and honor; God will bless you in turn and you will taste success all through your life. On the contrary, if you disrespect them and not heeding their instruction; this will displease the Heavenly Father, for the Bible is very clear on this, “If someone curses their father or mother, their lamp will be snuffed out in pitch darkness” (Proverbs 20:20). So, dear young people respect your parents; for God honors parents over their children.

The flip side is; when you obey your parents, are keen to heed their advice and lead a righteous life; you will be prosperous in all your ways and you’ll be filled with joy. Because this command comes with a promise, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother….so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth” (Ephesians 6:1-3). Today, whatever you have achieved in your life; is because of the sacrifices your parents have made. Love them, respect them and obey them! As you achieve the acme of your life, never turn your back on them.
Loving, Heavenly Father, I thank you for blessing me with such beautiful parents. I seek your forgiveness and theirs too; for disrespecting them in the past. I plead for your Holy Spirit, to fill me with your grace to obey and honor my parents and never to disrespect them.

In Jesus’ name, I pray.
