GENEROUS GODDate: 19-02-2010 Speaker: Dr. Paul Dhinakaran Gist: Jesus Christ is able to identify Himself with you.
On this wonderful day, let us meditate as to how we could lead a prosperous life. The Bible declares, “The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself” (Proverbs 11:25).
On this day God is going to transform your soul into one that gives liberally. Thereby God is going to prosper your soul. Be of good cheer!
Where from does this liberally giving attitude spring forth?
The Bible emphatically exhorts that giving liberally is the nature of the Almighty God. God is generous and this attribute of giving generously is His divine nature. "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
Whoever you may be, God is calling you to generously grant you His repose. He is not a God who sits on His throne in heaven promising to bless you. On the contrary, He gave Himself for each one of us (Philippians 2:6-8). God came in the form of a man named Jesus Christ (1 Peter 4:1). He sacrificed His life for us.
How did Jesus Christ live on this earth? He bore the afflictions of mankind in His flesh in order to know the sufferings of His children. He experienced agony and anxiety in His flesh. Therefore, He is able to generously bless His children. He felt hunger in His body and suffered on account of it (Mark 11:12). He thirsted for water just like any human being does (John 4:6). Even when His creation like foxes had cozy holes and birds of the air had comfortable nests, He, the Son of God had no place to rest His head.(Luke 9:58). He took rest on the mountains, hills, wilderness and under the shade of trees.
Therefore, Jesus Christ is able to identify Himself with us when we live in poverty or have no shelter to call our own. Such is the generous nature of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Why should He have to traverse such a rugged path?
To know your hunger, thirst (both spiritual and of this world) and need for shelter – a house to live in. Above all, He gave Himself as a sacrifice on the cross of Calvary. "He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses." He was bruised from head to foot for the sins of each one of us. For the forgiveness of our sins, when the soldier pierced His body, blood and water gushed out. His unconditional love for us made generous giving of Himself on the Cross for you and me possible.
On this day, He abides with you. All that you need to do is surrender your self into His loving hands. Then plead, “Lord! Please cleanse me of my sins.” He will by no means cast out anybody who comes to Him. Generously He will shower His love upon you, cleanse you of your sins and would bless you. Besides this, He will generously meet all the needs in your life according to Philippians 4:19. He dislikes His children suffering without a house, in poverty, in sickness, in hunger, thirst and like. Therefore, He would give His children riches from His immeasurable bounty. Fear not because God will put an end to all your problems by generously meeting all the needs in your life.
Prayer:
Loving Lord,
I praise and thank You from the bottom of my heart for the precious blood which You shed on the cross to pardon my sins. May the divine nature and attitude of giving generously like You become a part of my life. Enable me to identify myself with the poor and needy that I may reach out to them unconditionally.
Amen. |
