Gist:  Jesus Christ wants to offer us His rest that will make us rejoice in Him forever.

Dear Friend! On this wonderful day which the Lord has made for each one of us, we are going to receive the repose that Jesus Christ grants us. Our compassionate Christ while He sojourned on this earth made the following statement. "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Jesus Christ is desirous to take away the heavy burden that you are carrying on your back which is bending or bothering you. The rest which Jesus Christ grants will surely console you, enthuse you and make you stand straight again. It will pave way for you to live a life that is enriching and abundant. Trials and sorrows are part of our life but they cannot destroy us because Jesus Christ has already borne them as stated in the following verse. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. Isaiah 53:4

In the year 1990, my father suffered with a heart attack and doctors had declared that his survival would definitely be a ‘miracle’. For nearly one and a half hour, the heart of my father had stopped functioning. The monitor which makes known the beating of a heart showed a flat line. Following this they carried out a procedure that is similar to beating upon the heart and then a surgery was performed which took nearly 14 hours to complete. My father experienced excruciating pain and as night turned day the pain grew from bad to worse.

He kept lamenting for three months unable to bear that pain. Not a wink of sleep but only untold misery. During those times, it was my maternal uncle named George who looked after the administration of Jesus Calls Ministry and particularly used to take initiatives for conducting the public meetings of Jesus Calls Ministry. Daily he would come and console my father early in the morning and then would take care of the ministry. He would even skip lunch and use that time to plead, “Lord! Please heal my brother.” He prayed in this manner for nearly two months. Suddenly, he had a heart attack and was carried to the same hospital for treatment. It was I who drove the car.

Unfortunately, he passed away the following day. He could not bear the sorrow faced by his brother. Unable to witness the unbearable pain experienced by his brother, he cried profusely and that had led to a heart arrest. Sorrow, pain, grief and like are unbearable. When we feel such unbearable pain, we long for rest. Quite often one is forced to welcome death rather than suffer such unbearable pain. Therefore, Jesus Christ says, “My child! The sorrow in this world would be unbearable for you to carry. I know it is difficult for you handle sorrow brought by satan who comes only to steal, kill and destroy.” The strength of man to come out of these problems is not sufficient.

Therefore, Jesus Christ wants to offer us His rest that will make us rejoice in Him forever. Remember His yoke is easy and His burden is light. On this day let us learn to carry the yoke of Christ which is easy.

Prayer:

Loving Lord,

Your presence alone can grant us the repose that we are searching so desperately. Help me to always understand that Your yoke and burden is easy and light. Give me the grace to draw nearer to You that I may rest and rejoice in this precious life which You want me to live abundantly. On this day help me to relax and rejoice in Your immense grace and mercy.

Amen
