LIGHT AND SALVATIONDate: 06-02-2010 Speaker: Sis. Stella Dhinakaran Gist: Jesus who came into this world to dispel darkness will make your life shine.
When we look at today’s world, we see darkness everywhere. All the newspapers carry news only about murder, robbery, accidents, adultery and other acts of darkness and the sufferings people undergo. We see quarrels, divisions, suspicions, jealousy, hatred and bitterness in families. People are involved in heinous and horrible crimes. Who can dispel this darkness? What is the way to bring light into this dark world? “the Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1)
Jesus who came into this world to dispel darkness will make your life shine (John 1:9; Isaiah 58:10). “Fools walk in darkness” (Ecclesiastes 2:14). But, to those who look at God at all times and to those who seek Him faithfully, He gives His light and dispels the darkness (2 Samuel 22:29; Psalm 18:28).
The head of a family was a slave to all evil and wicked things in this world. Murder, robber, anger, drinking etc were all part and parcel of his daily life. His wife on the contrary was a pious woman filled with godly fear deep down in her heart. Therefore, she cautioned her husband not to indulge in such evil acts. But it was in vain. This burden made her fall sick and she was on her deathbed. Now her husband was alarmed. He wept wanting his wife to be somehow healed of her sickness. His wife told, “I don’t need any doctor. Please look for a good servant of God who would pray for me. Then I will be healed and get up from my bed.” This man did not know whom to approach.
Somehow, he found a good servant of God and told him about his problem. The servant of God, filled with God’s love, got up and went to that man’s house to pray for his dear wife. God heard the prayer and saw the tears of the true servant of God (Psalm 34:6). Slowly, that woman regained her strength and started walking. The husband, who saw this miracle, went straight to that servant of God and told him about his terrible and sinful life. He asked him whether God would forgive him or not. God redeemed him and dispelled the darkness from his life. Now, this couple have become wonderful tools to give light to people who live in darkness.
Prayer:
Loving Lord!
Dispel completely all the darkness in my life. From today onwards change me as a child of light. Hold my hand and lead me in the true path.
In Jesus’ precious name I pray.
Amen. |
