Gist:  God’s divine love forgives and forgets!

In this world, when some wrongs are done, people keep them in their heart and eagerly wait for a chance to take revenge. But, our Lord is quite the opposite. “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember them no more.” (Hebrews 8:12). When a sinner comes to Him confessing his sins, He is ready to forgive and forget them (Isaiah 1:18). He washes them with His blood and cleanses them and gives them a new life (Isaiah 38:17; Micah 7:19). God’s divine love forgives and forgets!

Once there lived a prodigal son who disobeyed his father. One day, he abused his father hurling words at him and went to a far off place. He joined with friends who were bad and they squandered all his money. Gradually his friends left him one by one. He began to realize his folly when he had no food to eat. He thought about his father and his true love. Immediately, he wrote a letter to his father. “Father, I am not worthy enough to call you as my father. But, I do realize my mistakes. As I write this letter I am not sure if you will accept me as you son. One of these days, I will be traveling in the train that passes by our house. If you are willing to take me back, tie a white flag on the top of the tree in front of our house. On seeing it I would know that you have forgiven my sins and would accept me as your son. Or else, I will end my life immediately.” The letter broke the father’s heart. He said, “I am happy that my son has agreed to come home and it is more than enough for me.” So, he did not tie one flag but many white flags on the tree. He thought if I tie just one flag and if my son missed seeing it, what would happen to his life? As the son was traveling in the train he saw many white flags on the tree and it broke his heart. He realized the unconditional love of his father and rushed home to embrace him.

Dearly beloved! This is the love of an ordinary father towards His son. Just imagine how much of love our heavenly Father will have on us (John 3:16; Ephesians 5:2).

Prayer:

Precious Saviour!

Today, like the prodigal son I come to take refuge under Your mighty wings. Forgive me and forget all my sins and wrongs. Accept me as Your son/daughter. I thank You for doing so.

In Jesus’ precious name I pray.

Amen.
