God called Abraham and said to him: "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing” (Genesis 12:1,2).
Accordingly, Abraham was blessed from generation to generation. The Lord who thus exalted Abraham is changeless even today.
Hagar who was forsaken by her family sat in loneliness, broken-hearted and weeping inconsolably. God spoke to her through His angel: "Go back to your mistress...You are now with child and you will have a son…I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count" (Genesis 16:10,9,11).
But even after the child was born, Hagar’s travails were not over. Discarded again by her people, she sat alone in the wilderness of Beersheba. With not a drop of water for her child to drink, she bewailed: "I cannot watch the boy die" (Genesis 21:16).
The Scripture says, “The eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him” (2 Chronicles 16:9).
Accordingly, the angel of the Lord appeared again to Hagar in that painful situation and asked her: "What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there. Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation" (Genesis 21:17,18). Faithful is He who promised and the seed of Hagar’s son Ishmael multiplied into a huge generation.
When you are vexed by troubles and disappointments, remember the words: “The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this” (Isaiah 9:7; 37:32). The Lord who said, “Apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5) will accomplish great things for you.
When God created this world, darkness enveloped it. But when He said, "Let there be light" (Genesis 1:3), there was light. The same God is alive even today! God is waiting even today to send His light and dispel all darkness from your life and from your family.
The Bible says, “The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him” (Nahum 1:7). It also assures, “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you” (Isaiah 26:3).
The Lord is trustworthy. He will certainly fulfill His promises in your life. He is sure to shower His divine peace over your family, for the God who sees you is the living God!
Loving Lord Jesus,
You are faithful to keep your promises. I trust in your goodness. Send your light and dispel darkness from my life. Fulfill your promises in my life. Bless me and my children. Show me your favour and exalt me. Make me a blessing for others.
In Your matchless name I pray.
