REDEEMER RELENTS
- Sis. Stella Dhinakaran
Once there lived a god-fearing and devout family doing good for others as best as they could. Suddenly, like a violent volcanic eruption, the husband turned his attention upon another woman other than his wife. When that man’s wife became aware of his infidelity, she wept. Her husband hid his sins pretending to be a pious, godly and good man. God sent a terrible disease to afflict his body. This made him realize his folly. In his despair, he said, “Alas! Shame on me! I have spoiled the good name of my family. Is there any life for me hereafter?’ However, his beloved wife encouraged, “You need not worry or ponder over your past. Since you have realized your mistake, confess your sins to God and beg for His mercy and pardon. Surely, He will forgive your sin and grant you a new life.” She also fasted and prayed for him. Now, divine strength entered his body. Together as a husband and wife when offered prayers jointly the mercy of God filled them abundantly. He anointed them with the fullness of His Holy Spirit. Gradually, outpouring of the Holy Spirit increased and the terrible disease left making him whole.
“Did he not fear the LORD and seek the Lord's favor? And the Lord relented concerning the doom which He had pronounced against them. But we are doing great evil against ourselves." Jeremiah 26:19
The prophet Jonah headed in another direction not wanting to do what the Lord told him to do. However, the Lord chased and caught hold of him by making the ship in which he was traveling face severe storm. Consequently, he was thrown into the sea. Then, the Lord made a big fish swallow him. From the belly of the fish, he looked at God and prayed to Him. God heard his prayers. So, the Lord spoke to the fish and it vomited Jonah on to dry land (Jonah 2:10). Though he wanted to go against the word of the Lord, because he cried out and prayed to God He forgave him and showed mercy to him (Daniel 9:10; Lamentations 3:22).
Dearly beloved! Perhaps you too may have some hidden sins in your life. You might have found fault with the servants of God or the lust of flesh would have come secretly in your life or you might have done evil things against God. This is the time for you to seek God’s mercy. Fast and pray asking God to forgive your sins. God will fill you also with His new grace and mercy (Hebrews 4:16).
Prayer
Almighty God,
Please have mercy on me and save me from the consequences of my sins. From today onwards, give me the grace to lead a holy life and to come closer to You.
In the blessed name of our Lord Jesus Christ I pray.
Amen.
