Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in South Africa situated between the Zambezi and Limpopo rivers. The official name of Zimbabwe is Republic of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe became an independent state on 18 April 1980. Zimbabwe was formerly known as Southern Rhodesia, the Republic of Rhodesia and Zimbabwe Rhodesia. Zimbabwe derived is from the stone structures of Great Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe is rich in minerals, copper, nickel, gold, chrome and coal. Its platinum deposits are the world’s largest. Industries include food processing, metals, textiles, furniture and engineering. Maize, ground nuts, cotton and tobacco are the chief crops, tobacco being the most important one. The Victoria Falls is a great landmark in Zimbabwe. It is sometimes referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World. It also has the best white-water rafting in the whole world! Tourism is the fastest growing sector in the country.
Description of Zimbabwe flag:
The flag was adopted April 18, 1980. Green, yellow, red and black are the official colors. The white triangle represents peace, and its black edge the country's new leaders. A type of Zimbabwe bird is on the star of the Zimbabwe flag. The Soapstone Bird is the national emblem, and the red star symbolizes an international outlook.
Climate:
Zimbabwe is in the tropics mostly, but it is not really hot. In the winter the temperatures are nice with warm days and clear nights. The summer is when Zimbabwe gets most of its rain. But the climate is nice and the rain in the summer takes away the humidity. Some of the trees change color in the winter. There is red and yellow in the mopane trees.
