Solomon’s wisdom.

In the previous segment we saw about the two women’s complaint.

Today we will see what happened after ….

These two angry women shouting at each other, ready to tare out each other’s hair if they had the chance! Poor Solomon! He had never met anything like this before. If ever be needed the wisdom which God had promised him, it was now.

“Bring me a sword” he said calmly, and a servant brought him one, while silence fell in the room. “What is he going to do with that sword?” Someone whispered in the palace. Fury and fright filled the palace of Solomon.

Solomon said angrily, “divide the living child in two,” said Solomon, and give half to the one and half to the other.” Everybody was shocked. “No! Please don’t!” screamed the real mother. “O my lord, give her the living child, and in no way slay it.” “No,” said the other woman heartlessly, let it be neither mine or thine, but divide it.”

“Aha!” mused Solomon; “now I know to whom the child belongs.” Then pointing to the woman who had asked that the baby’s life be spared, he said, “Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother of the living child.”

As the two women went out from the presence of the king their story went with them. It leaped from city to city and from village to village till everybody from one end of the country to the other was talking about that baby, and how Solomon had found out who its mother was.

And all the Israelites heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do judgment.
