Paul's Mission - II

One day, as Paul and his friends went for prayer, they healed a young, slave girl who earned a lot of money for her masters, by telling other people's fortunes. Once Paul healed her from her sickness and oppression, her masters could not make any more money through her. In their great anger, they grabbed Paul and Silas and dragged them to the higher officials.

They told lies about them and called them 'traitors'. An angry crowd beat Paul and Silas badly and threw them into the prison. The feet of both of them were tied between heavy blocks of wood. They were chained and were under tight security.

Since they were chained in one position, they could not even move their body ached from the beatings that the guards had given them.

Though their situation seemed to be hopeless, they did not give up. Even in that darkest hour of the night, when everything seemed against them, they chose to sing and pray, thus praising God, instead of complaining about their bad circumstances. The other prisoners enjoyed listening to them. Suddenly, a powerful earthquake shook even the foundations of the prison! The cell doors opened automatically and their chains were loosened.

The jailer woke up and when he saw all the doors were wide open, he drew his sword and made an attempt to kill himself. He thought all the prisoners had escaped and he knew that his punishment would be terrible. Paul cried out and stopped him from doing so.

The jailer called out for lights and trembling with fear, fell down before Paul and Silas and asked them - "Tell me, please, how do I become a follower of your God?"

They said - "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved." The jailer took them home and the entire household came to know about Christ and accepted Christ as their personal Saviour.
