As the good news about Jesus was spreading rapidly everywhere, some people chose to listen to Him, whereas others did not.
Many times, God has spoken through the prophets to the Jews saying that a Light will arise from them. And that Light was Jesus. Even Jesus had mentioned that His teachings that were at first for the Jews. Later, it will be for the entire world, irrespective of what they are or where they belonged to.
This was one of the most important reason, which made the religious Leaders hate Jesus. But, then time had come for a great change to happen everywhere in the world and God made it very evident through 2 people Peter, an apostle of Jesus and a man named Cornelius, who was a Roman army officer and not a Jew.
Cornelius was in charge of over one hundred soldiers. He was a man of prayer and one who feared God with all his household as well as giving money generously to the poor.
One afternoon, he saw clearly in a vision, an angel of God coming in and saying to him "Cornelius!" "What is it, Lord?" out of fear, he asked. "God has heard your prayers. He is pleased with all the money you have offered to the poor. Now send some of your men to Joppa and ask them to find out a man named Peter. He is living with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea." Cornelius did as the angel said. He sent 3 of his men.
As they were heading for Joppa, a strange thing happened to Peter. He went up on the housetop by the sea to pray. He felt very hungry and as he as waiting for his dinner to get ready, He had a vision, too!
Peter saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet being lowered down. In it were all kinds of animals and birds. And a voice came to him - "Rise, Peter, Kill and eat these animals!"
Peter said, "How is it possible, Lord? As we are not allowed to eat these things and I've never eaten anything that is unclean"
The repeatedly for a second and third time, the voice told him - What God has cleaned, you must not call unclean." Then, the great sheet was taken up into heaven again.
