Peter saved by an Angel

The apostles performed many miracles and wonders among the people, and every day, they used to gather at one of the temple gates and address the people, thus spreading the news about Jesus. More and more people believed in Jesus and were added to their number. Some people were scared of getting into trouble, so they never used to get that closer although they listened to the word. The people brought the sick into the streets and laid them there  so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by.

As a result, religious leaders grew jealous and angry on them. They did not want to hear about Jesus again. So, in order to prevent spreading news about the resurrected Jesus, they arrested the Apostles and put them in the public prison. But there too, during the night, God sent His angel to open the prison doors and rescued them. This is what the angel of the Lord told them - "Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this life." Jesus did not leave them alone. That very same Jesus is alive today. So, He will neither leave us not forsake us.

The Apostles went back to the temple and did everything as the angel had told them. In the morning, the religious leaders heard that the Apostles had escaped while the prison doors remained tightly locked with the guards standing at the doors. Now, they became even more worried over the happenings. When they found the Apostles talking to people at the temple, the captain with his officers brought the Apostles back to the religious leaders. There they were questioned. "Had we not told you not to speak about Jesus?" But Peter and the other Apostles said, "We must obey God rather than men. The Almighty God raised Jesus from the dead, whom you had killed by hanging Him on the cross. God has lifted Jesus high so that He might give forgiveness and repentance to all who turn to Him wholeheartedly."

The leaders wanted to kill them right there. But a wise Pharisee named Gamaliel told them, "Let them go. If what they say is a lie, they will fall one day. But if it be from God, when we do something to them, we would be going against the will of God and be cursed." The others were convinced, but still they whipped the Apostles, ordered them not to speak about Jesus anymore and let them go. Then, the very next day, the Apostles started spreading the goodnews again that Jesus is the Christ. They continued to work for the Lord.

This is what Jesus expects from you and me - He wants us to spread the goodnews about Him everywhere on this earth.

Q1) Who opened the prison doors?
Q2) Who was Gamaliel?
