The Spirit of Adoption

Speaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran

Gist: God takes great delight when we call Him as Abba, Father and gladly grants us all our desires.

Beloved! When we give our hearts to the Lord, He cleanses us with His precious blood and fills us with His Spirit giving us the right to become His sons and daughters. He gives us the privilege to call Him as “Abba, Father.” Yes, He will hear our prayers and grant all our desires.

“Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, ‘Abba Father’ (Galatians 4:6).

“For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father’ “(Romans 8:15).

On May 21st 1986, I lost my seventeen year old darling daughter in a horrible car accident. She had written in her diary, “Of all the things in this world, what I like the most are my Daddy’s kisses!” She had written it so because I would shower her with kisses everyday. When I return from preaching the Gospel from abroad or out of station, she would wait for me at the airport. I would embrace and kiss her. When I read her diary, it broke my heart. I thought, “Who will I again kiss lovingly?” For three years we spent our days in tears when my son was married to a girl called Evangeline. We were greatly thrilled when we first came to know that her name was the same as my daughter’s name! One day, even before my wife and I could enter our house after preaching the Gospel in another city, our daughter-in- law ran up to us, embraced us and kissed us. Tears of joy filled our eyes by the love she showed us. She treats us lovingly as mother and father like our own daughter.

Similarly, God takes great delight when we call Him as Abba, Father. The relationship with our Father God will be intimate. The Lord who says, “Heaven is My throne, and earth is my footstool” is truly a colossal Person and He shall gladly grant all our desires.

Prayer:

Abba Father!

Cleanse me and fill me with Your Spirit. I thank You that I am Your son/ daughter and I can call You Abba, Father. I commit my life into Your hands. Transform me and use me for Your glory. I thank You for the promise that You will grant me all my desires. Father, bless me and exalt me in life. Let Your grace fill my life. In Jesus’ name I pray.

Amen.
