God Who Sanctifies Us

Speaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran

Gist: The blood of Lord Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.

Beloved! We all like to live a holy life in this evil world but at times we fail to lead a holy life. We can never lead a holy life with our own strength. In Leviticus 22:32, God says, “I am the Lord who sanctifies you.” Surely, He will sanctify us with His blood.

Man was in sin and he had no fellowship with God. The Bible says that the life of a man is in his blood (Leviticus 17:11, 14). It also says that without shedding of blood there was no remission of sin (Hebrews 9:22). So it was imperative that man’s blood should be shed for the remission of his sins. But a man’s sinful blood can never sanctify another sinner’s life. In order to redeem man from sin, the Almighty God came down into the world in the form of Jesus Christ and shed His sinless blood on the cross. (1 Timothy 3:16)

One day a little boy in a village was playing near a pile of limestone. While playing he fell onto the limestone. The limestone got into his eyes and he started screaming in pain and agony. Usually limestone when mixed with water begins to boil as slaked lime. The lime mingled with the tears of the boy began to scorch his eyes bitterly. Immediately the village doctor was summoned. The rustic doctor said that only the blood of an ox or a goat would stop the burning and save his eyes.

When the boy’s mother was informed of her son’s pitiable condition, she rushed to her son who was writhing in agony. She told the doctor to take her own blood and put into her son’s eyes as there was no time to get an animal’s blood. She pleaded to cut her finger and take the required blood. The village doctor urged by the insistence of the mother and seeing there was no other alternative made an incision in her finger and drew some blood and put it into the little boy’s eyes. The mother kept asking her son whether he was feeing better. She told the doctor to draw more blood if needed to put in his eyes. The blood helped to remove the impurities from the child’s eyes.

Our Lord Jesus loves us more than a mother. He says, “Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you” (Isaiah 49:15). Thus He gave His life, so that we can enjoy life.

At this time, let us value His sacrifice and lead a life pleasing to our Saviour. 1 John 1:7 says, the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. Let us plead unto God to sanctify us and receive blessings kept in store for us.
