MY HELPER

Speaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran

Gist: Call upon the Lord and He will help you to come out of all your problems.

God will meet all your needs and He will relieve you from all your worries, when you call upon Him.

Before our Lord Jesus Christ departed from His disciples, He looked at them and said to them, “If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.” So, we will also get everything that we ask Him, in His name.

The meaning of “Jesus” is “Saviour, One Who redeems us from sins and curses.” The meaning of the word “Christ” is One Who is anointed for this mission.

So, when we use these two names in our prayers, we profess and declare the advent of Jesus Christ in this earth two thousand years ago for the salvation of mankind! Such a prayer gladdens Him and our prayers are answered immediately without any delay!

Many years ago, a high ranking police official of a foreign country came to Kashmir with great enthusiasm to enjoy the beauty of this dream land. One day all his belongings along with his tickets and money were stolen. His heart was broken. He did not know what to do and with whom to share his predicament.

When sorrow crushed him to the core, a high ranking Indian officer met him and took pity about his pathetic condition. He took the foreign official to his house. He said to him, Sir, do not worry, you can stay here as long as you wish. I will help you in all possible ways.” Being a very kind and hospitable person, he took care of him and sent him to his country safely. At the time of departure, the foreign official was moved by the love and concern shown to him by this strange Indian officer. He held his hands and said to him, “Sir, if you need any help, just send a telegram. I will surely help you. I can never forget the comfortable stay at your home.” And he shed tears of gratitude.

Days passed by and one day the daughter of the Indian officer, along with her husband and children, boarded a ship to go to the country of the foreign police official. Suddenly, the Indian Officer remembered that his daughter’s family members did not get their visas! He was in distress and said to himself, “Oh! My children left without visa! The officials will not allow them to land without proper papers.”

At that moment, he remembered this foreign police official whom he had helped long ago. Immediately, he sent a telegram to him stating, “My daughter’s family is coming to your country without visa. Kindly help them.” The ship reached that country. When all the other passengers were standing in a queue with their visa papers, the family members of the Indian officer were very worried as they had undertaken the voyage without the necessary visa papers. They were in great distress. At that time, the police officers of that country boarded the ship. They called the family members of the Indian officer by their names and did all necessary help. Not only that, they said to them that they can stay there for any number of days. We will help you. You need not worry about anything.” They treated them with love and respect. In the same way, God will take care of you and He will relieve you from all your worries.

Two thousand years ago, God came to this earth as “Jesus” and He began to do His ministry at the age of 30. He chose twelve disciples to be with Him to do the ministry along with Him. But, He was in great distress, when He had to leave them after a companionship of 3½ years. On one hand, one of His disciples Judas joined hands with the people who hated Jesus and was looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus for thirty pieces of silver (John 13:2). On the other hand, when He looked at the faces of His sincere and faithful disciples, His heart began to melt. He said that the hour had come to depart from His disciples and took pity on them and loved them to the end (John 13:1).

Jesus said, “Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, 'Where I am going, you cannot come,' so now I say to you.” (John 13:33)

The moment He uttered these words, Thomas, one of His disciples said with anxiety, “Lord we do not know where you are going and how can we know the way?” (John 14:5). Then Jesus enquired them, “When you were with me for 3 ½ years, did you lack anything?” (Luke 22:35). They promptly replied, “No. We did not lack anything.” At that moment Jesus, with great compassion for His disciples, said the words in John 14:14 which says, “If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” He assured them that they would be taken care in the same way even in His physical absence.

My dear friend, do you think that there is nobody to take care of you? Please remember that Jesus is there to help you to come out of all your problems and to meet all your needs. He says with compassion that whatever you ask in His name He will do it. So, call upon Him and He will fulfill all your desires.

Prayer:

Loving Lord Jesus Christ,

You are my Helper. Please make me to be Your child and bless me this day with all the blessings. I cast all my burdens upon You and I believe that you will answer all my prayers. Meet all my needs and help me to be a blessing to others. Give me Your grace and mercy for this new day.

All glory, honour and praises belong to You alone.

Amen.
