Get or Give?Speaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran Gist: Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. We have an Intercessor who lives forever. St. Paul therefore writes to Timothy asking him to remember that according to his gospel Jesus Christ was raised from the dead.
Whenever you come into the church of the Lord, if your conscience pricks you, or are burdened by the cares of this world you can pour out all your agony at the feet of the Lord making it a point to remember that you have a Living Intercessor. He would say, "My child! Go forward! Don't look back." That is the greatest privilege for His children.
Paul reminds us about one statement of our Lord Jesus Christ. "I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" (Acts 20:35)
"Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you." (Luke 6:38). Surely the Lord will multiply and return that which you give to Him. Truly it is more blessed to give than receive.
One day, a woman dressed in rags insisted on seeing me at my office. I came out to receive her. From her demeanor I could easily decipher that she was a broken hearted woman. She told me, "Brother! My husband is a drunkard. He spends a major part of his earnings on drinks and ruthlessly beats me and kicks the children. Almost every night is a nightmare for me." Thus she shared her sorrow and sufferings with me.
I comforted her by shedding my tears and praying for her. While I was about to leave, she said, "Brother! Please wait a moment" and handed over a bundle wrapped in newspaper. I asked her, "What is it?" She responded, "Please open it." Carefully I opened and on seeing currency notes lifted my eyes and once again I asked her, "What is this for?" She said, "This is for you." There was six thousand rupees in that bundle. I stood perplexed but uttered softly and politely, "My precious sister! It is you who need this money now and not me."
Immediately with a tone slightly raised she said, "Brother! You have mistaken. I am not giving it to you for your personal use. It is for the Lord's ministry. When you use it for reaching out to millions of precious perishing souls and win them over, God will remember and bless me. Then He will surely transform my husband and bless us with a happy married life." Once again lowering her voice she said, "Please don't say no. Accept this. Use it for God." In truth that is a wonderful statement. It is more blessed to give than to receive.
Whenever the offering bags are brought before you remember, "It is always blessed to give than to receive." With this thought, "I am following a new concept given to me by the Almighty God. Through obedience to this concept my family and I are going to be blessed abundantly" give unto God.
They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures (Psalms 36:8).
We have so many needs. It may be a need for peace of mind, success in court cases, healing from sicknesses, a job, finances and so on. Everyday tension and frictions are encountered but on entering the house of the Lord (Church), God is waiting eagerly for you. He receives the ten percent or even less that you give Him and grants you a hundred fold. "Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him. The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous" (Genesis 26:12,13).
Yes there is fullness in our Father's home.
Prayer
Almighty God,
Help me to always remember that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Enable me to offer tithe without fail and also reach out to those in need this day. I confess that You always bless those who give unto Thee a hundred fold in return. Whenever I enter the church, May I always be reminded that there is fullness in the house of the Lord (Church). Meet all my needs this day according to the riches of Your glory.
In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen |
