Hurting Heart

Speaker: Dr. Paul Dhinakaran

Gist: "He grants the barren woman a home, like a joyful mother of children. Praise the Lord!" (Psalms 113:9)

In your life, you may face various kinds of wounds, which hurt your heart and body. The Lord says, "I will heal the wounds of your heart."

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." (Psalms 147:3)

How does one get hurt in their heart and life?

A few years ago, I happened to read about an incident that took place in a certain village near the city of Coimbatore. A woman who lived there was barren. The members of her family abused her and humiliated her. Unable to bear the torment, she began to act as if she got pregnant. As the days passed by, to pose as if her belly looked bigger like that of a pregnant woman, she placed a pillow and continued her drama. After nine months, she told her family members, "I will go to the city and give birth to my child." The family members blessed her and sent her away. That woman entered a maternity hospital in a city nearby and tried to steal a boy child that was born just that day. Unfortunately, she was caught red-handed and handed over to the police. She could not bear the agony. The members of her family who heard about this were greatly troubled and they wept without consolation.

There are many who yearn for the gift of a child. The Bible tells us about a woman named Hannah who knelt at the feet of the Lord and shed tears, pouring out her heart, even unable to speak (1 Samuel 1:8,15). Being a woman of sorrowful spirit, she lamented saying, "Lord! How long should I bear this agony? How many days must I bear this anguish?" She was deeply hurt because of being barren. The loving Lord listened and answered her prayer. She was miraculously blessed with a beautiful boy baby who grew up to be a mighty prophet. The Lord thus healed the hurts in the heart of Hannah.

"He grants the barren woman a home, like a joyful mother of children. Praise the Lord!" (Psalms 113:9)

This is the heart of the Lord towards every barren woman. The Holy Spirit promises today, "I will surely heal the wounds of your heart and bless the fruit of your womb."

Not only that, wounds are also caused as a result of having to bear the loss of a loved one. In the Book of Ruth, we read about a widow named Naomi. She lost her loving husband and her two young sons. They were her only treasure on earth. The agony of her heart was immeasurable. She wept and said, "Do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me." Dear friend, we too lament at the loss of our loved ones, being deeply hurt in our heart.

I came across an incident in a newspaper. A mother along with her husband brought up her children with great joy. That mother got affected with asthma and gradually became very weak. One day she passed away. Everything seemed bleak to her husband who was overwhelmed with grief. The son with great agony cried, "Daddy, I cannot live without my dear mother. She used to feed me and made me wear my dresses." Both the father and the son wept bitterly and they consumed poison. His daughter who looked at the dead bodies of her beloved father and brother chopped her head using a knife. Unable to bear the separation of the beloved lady, all three of them died on the same day. Death is horrendous because it deeply affects and hurts the heart. It troubles one with these thoughts "No ray of hope, how can I ever live?" Our Lord Jesus Christ alone is able to sympathize with us. The Bible promises, "God sets the solitary in families." He fondly says, "My dear child, you who languish in loneliness, come to Me. I will heal your wounds and make you live." Be of good cheer!

Prayer:

Loving Lord Jesus,

I desire my life to be a good example for others. Strengthen my heart so that I may endure moments of affliction and sufferings with patience. Heal all my wounds and set me free. Give me the wisdom, strength, and faith to hope for great things. I trust You with all my heart and I submit all things to You. I give You all the praise, honour and glory.

Amen.
