HUNDRED FOLD YIELD!

Gist: "The blessings of God" have the power to transform the curse and sorrow into great blessings. A flash of hope swelled my shriveled heart.

Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him. The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous. Genesis 26:12-13

When did Isaac sow? Where did he sow?

Isaac sowed the seeds when there was a severe famine in the land (Genesis 26:1).

"Sow in the month of July (Aadi)" is an old Tamil proverb. In Tamil Nadu July is the right month for sowing as it is the monsoon season and the rivers overflow in that month. So if one sows in that month he could get a good yield. But Isaac sowed when there was no rain and the land where he dwelt was severely affected by a famine. But God blessed it and contrary to human expectations, he reaped a hundredfold harvest!

"The blessings of God" have the power to transform the curse and sorrow into great blessings. The Scripture tells this concept in Deuteronomy 23:5 as "The LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loves you."

"The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it." Proverbs 10:22

"For I will turn their mourning to joy, and will comfort them". (Jeremiah 31:13).

"Your sorrow will be turned into joy" (John 16:20).

Yes, the blessing of the Lord will obliterate curse and transform sorrow into joy. He never adds sadness to the blessings He offers to His people. All sad circumstances will be transformed into gladness.

Many years ago, an evangelist met me. A simple peasant stood near her with a large garland made of cardamom. He enthusiastically adorned it around my neck and the joy bubbling in his soul was quite visibly evident.

This simple peasant, a cultivator of cardamoms narrated his story to me. "For the past six years, the yield of cardamom was very poor owing to drought conditions. With much disappointment I sat on the dry farm and wept not knowing how I could repay the loans incurred. At that moment someone walked along that pathway carrying a transistor. I heard a heartrending song on that day's broadcast which said, "He will wipe away all your tears" sung by someone. These words of that song strengthened my heart. I requested that man to sit by my side and listened to the programme. "Who will wipe away my tears?" such a question arose in me. Therefore, I carefully listened to the entire song. Whispering a prayer, I attentively listened to the message that followed and also joined in the prayer that was offered. I felt as if the prayer was supplicated specifically for me. A flash of hope swelled my shriveled heart. Afterwards I began to listen to that programme every Sunday. The following year when we trimmed the farm, I prayed to God, "Oh Jesus, if what that man spoke in the radio is true, please make my farm also yield hundred fold" with tears and faith I muttered this prayer. What a miracle, usually cardamom grow only at the top branches of the tree. But that year to my astonishment I could see cardamom growing in bunches all over the trees from the root to the top almost in every branch! In that particular year, I got the yield comparative to that of five years put together! I repaid all my debts. I became curious to know the person who sowed seeds of faith in my heart through that radio programme. I wished to thank that servant of God from the bottom of my heart. This sister has now guided me to you."

My dearly beloved, the Lord who multiplied the seeds sown by Isaac to a hundredfold in the old Testament days during famine has performed the same miracle now in this century to a humble, simple, yet a believing peasant. The same Lord would also surely bless you a hundredfold this year.

Prayer:

Loving Lord,

I praise You for You alone have the power to transform a curse into a blessing. You always want our soul to prosper in everything. Bless this day, prosper all our efforts and help us to reap a rich harvest which is beyond our comprehension. Deliver us from the snare of the evil one and keep us under Your mighty wings.

In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen
