Armor Of The Holy Spirit
Speaker: Dr. Paul Dhinakaran
Gist: When great hurdles surround you, and not knowing how to overcome them, do not be dismayed. You can overcome them through the name of the Almighty Lord. Wear the armor of the Holy Spirit. He will lead you to victory and exalt more than you have desired.
When the Lord Jesus Christ was departing from this world into heaven, He gave a promise to His disciples saying, "I shall send my Holy Spirit to you" (John 14:20). He is the Spirit of the Almighty God. The Bible also describes the Holy Spirit as the One who helps us in our weaknesses, our pains and our temptations (Romans 8:26). The Holy Spirit will help us when we are tempted and give us grace not to be discouraged and pessimistic by those temptations.
When the Almighty God is within us, temptations shall not overcome us anymore, because the Bible says, "You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4). Therefore, He will wage war against all the problems that confronts us. The Holy Spirit will undertake this responsibility for us. He will be a wall of fire all around us.
Friend, if you desire to have victory in your life, then you certainly need the Holy Spirit in your life. This is not something over which you have a choice. This is something you most certainly need to receive and experience.
The children of Israel did not protect the land they had taken possession of through their own strength or their own swords. It was the light of the Lord's countenance, which did it for them.
Consider the life of David. He had to fight a great giant of a Philistine soldier. He told the armies of Israel that he himself was about to go against this Goliath. Goliath's voice sounded triumphant. He was so big and tall. He was also a well-trained soldier but David was a mere lad. He was a ruddy of countenance and handsome in appearance. He had only his sling and five smooth pebbles picked up from the brook-side. But he boldly confronted his opponent saying, "You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth." (1 Samuel 17:45,49)
That entire nation received a new life through a mere shepherd boy. The people sang praises in his name and exalting him very high. His fame spread far and wide.
Dear friend, there may be great obstacles blocking your progress like Goliath. Perhaps you are apprehensive of what the future holds for you thinking, "What will be the final result of my examinations? Will I able to secure congenial employment later?" These may be your enemies. Do not be discouraged with a defeatist attitude. You must be courageous like the young David. Tell the great hurdles that come against you, "I face you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ" and then resist them.
Your circumstances may not be favourable. You may be weak in your studies or rejected by all the other members of your family or you are inadequate in your spiritual life. This is no consequence, because you have a God who loves you. The Lord is prepared to bless you. He will surely overcome the Goliath who stands against you. You will taste victory and will be exalted. "He will make you the head and not the tail" (Deuteronomy 28:13).
Friend, David was just a shepherd boy. The Lord loved him because he led a righteous life. The Lord lifted him high up and placed him as a king of Israel. He would never in his shepherd boy's life have dreamt that one day he would become a ruler over the nation.
Similarly my friend, you too may do not know that you are to be elevated to a sovereign position in life in your future. But you are sure to be raised up to great heights in the days to come. Do not be dismayed.
Yes, all things are possible for God (Luke 1:37; Jeremiah 32:17). May be you are diffident, doubting your own capacity to face the problems that confront you. You may say that you are not getting the promotions due to you in your secular vocation. You may feel pessimistic saying, "I shall never rise to any considerable height in life". Others may think, "Will I ever get proper employment?" These problems may loom large against you like giants and Anakims. But the Lord tells you, "I shall establish My word before you; I shall fight your battles". What He promises He also performs. He will exalt you not only in your academic education, but also in your secular vocation, granting to you congenial employment.
Grant me the courage to march forward against the hurdles that come my way. Help me to remember always that I can overcome all obstacles with Your strength. Empower me to wear the armor of the Holy Spirit and be guided by Him always. In Jesus' matchless name, I pray.
