Divine Mercy Speaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran Gist: When diseases, hostilities, sufferings, tribulations, scorn, abuse and loneliness come in our life, when our feet stumble, the Holy Spirit certainly, consoles our souls, props us up and guides us with His great mercy. Friend, God’s Mercy holds us up. When we traverse the path of distress, God pours on us His ‘Spirit of Grace’.
"Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses." (Hebrews 10:28)
"I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn." (Zechariah 12:10)
Spirit of Mercy holds up our feet when they slither. During the days of His ministry on the earth, Jesus told His disciples: “I will pray the Father and He will give you another Helper that He may abide with you forever (John 14:16,17; 15:26; 16:7). In the Early Church of the New Testament days, when Philip, Peter and others were facing difficult situations, straining their nerves to take decisive resolutions, the Holy Spirit appeared as a person (Acts 8:29; 10:19; 15:29), consoled them and saved their souls, by granting His mercy immeasurably.
On 2nd January 1990, I was assailed by a severe heart problem and the heart stopped functioning for half an hour. With the persistent efforts of the doctors and by the mercy of God, I was brought to life again. A complicated surgery was done for about 16 hours. Seventy days afterwards, I returned home from the hospital, with no capacity to walk. I languished bedridden for six months at home. Constantly, some one of my family my wife or son or daughter Evangeline would be beside my bed. One day, to be exact on 26th September, 1990, I was alone for a while; I wept bitterly to the Lord crying out, "Alas, O, Lord, I am a burden to myself' (Job 7:20). I am of no use anymore to anyone. I cannot preach any more. I cannot enlighten the people anymore about Jesus. At that time my bedroom was enveloped by the glory of God; all of a sudden a person appeared before my eyes; He is the very same Man, the Holy Spirit, who helped Philip, Peter and the Early church. He commanded, "My son, get up." I replied, "I cannot get up and walk; I will fall down." He persisted, 'Get up and put your foot down; I will hold you up. In obedience to the Holy Spirit, I got up and with great difficulty I set down my feet and walked for the first time, after a long number of days. The Holy Person saw that my feet did not stumble or slip and supported me with His mercy.
My dear friend, God's ways are always miraculously wonderful. When diseases, hostilities, sufferings, tribulations, scorn, abuse and loneliness impose terrible problems in our life, when our feet stumble, the Holy Spirit certainly, consoles our souls, props us up and guides us with His great mercy.
Prayer:
Gracious Heavenly Father,
I adore Your with all my heart for granting me the Divine Comforter, the Holy Spirit. When my foot slips, Lord let Your mercy hold me up. Help me to believe in You always. Teach me to obey Your voice today and forever. Let Your name alone be glorified forever. In Jesus' mighty name, I pray.
Amen. |
