Wait on the Lord

Speaker: Dr. Paul Dhinakaran

Gist: If you live a holy life always waiting on the Lord, then when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him. He will shield us from the devil's wiles.

Why did David wait on the Lord the entire day?

"Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy. To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine." (Psalm 33:18,19)

David waited on the Lord, the whole day to protect his soul from death. We too, should wait on the Lord, ever, so that we can save our soul from death and receive God's strength. Do you realise how necessary it is.

Now turn to consider the young man Joseph. All of a sudden, in his life, a terrible calamity turned up. Thunder-strokes came one after another. He lost his father's love and fortified his wealth and property. He was sold as a slave in the open field, like a prisoner. Imagine his lonely pathetic situation. But, still, 'the Lord was with Joseph' (Genesis 39:2). His master's wife brought upon him a terrible trial. He said that God was watching him, and added, "How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" (Genesis 39:9). Yet, he was thrown into the prison, by conspiring circumstances, temporarily. "But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was his doing. The keeper of the prison" (Genesis 39:21-23). In course of time, Joseph was brought to the presence of Pharaoh, with honour. And Pharaoh said to his servants, "Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?" (Genesis 41:38). Pharaoh exalted Joseph to be the Ruler of the whole of Egypt and commanded all his subjects to bow before him. Though a young man like any one of us, Joseph was filled with God's Spirit, having waited on Him. Pharaoh, understanding this fact, uplifted him.

When you are overflowing with the Holy Spirit, as you go home or to School or college, for whatever purpose it may be, you can go on chatting with Him. The Holy Spirit, who abides in you, will perform mighty deeds; He will keep you holy. You too can live a sanctified life, like Joseph. You will boldly assert, "How can I do this wickedness and sin against God?"

"When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him" (Isaiah 59:19). He will shield us from the devil's wiles.

Prayer:

Loving Heavenly Father,

Show me Your ways. Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation, on You I wait all the day. Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your loving kindnesses, For they are from of old. Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; according to Your mercy remember me, for Your goodness' sake, O Lord. In Jesus name, I pray.

Amen.
