Life In The BodySpeaker: Dr. Paul Dhinakaran Gist: Jesus underwent unbearable agony on the cross to save you from the torture of disease. He will heal all your diseases, by touching you with His nail-pierced, wounded hands. He will make you live a new life. Jesus, the Son of God, chose to surrender His body to be tortured on the Cross so that He could be familiar with the painful diseases with which we suffer nowadays. Strong Roman soldiers whipped His flesh tearing away pieces of flesh; they pierced His body with their spears; they thrust a crown of thorns forcibly on His head, making His head and face bleed. They cruelly nailed His hands and legs on the Cross; His whole body was subjected to their ruthless wrath and it sustained wounds and stripes. The King of kings underwent all this agony; He surrendered His body to be tortured to save us from the torture of disease.
Many years ago, when we were conducting 'Jesus Calls' Prayer Meetings in the city of Pune, one night I gave a message on the wounds and stripes on the body of Jesus; then during the follow-up prayer, I interceded for the healing of the diseased people intently and compassionately. At that time, a strong faith rose up in a small girl's heart. One of her eyes, hit by a pebble, had lost its sight. She appealed to God with tears: "Lord Jesus, I need good eye-sight; touch me with Your wounded hand; show me, O Lord, that You are still alive and You love me. Touch my eye" What a wonderful surprise. Even as I kept praying, God's power descended on her. The nail-pierced hands of Jesus appeared to her. According to her faith, His hands touched her eye. God gave her a new eye and a new clear sight. Two days later, she came with her parents to meet me; they glorified the name of Jesus in ecstatic joy. The girl also was rapturously happy.
"He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses" (Matthew 8:17). "He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed."(Isaiah 53:5)
My dear friend, the Lord is well aware of the horror of your diseases, as He has already borne all debilities and torturing pain in His body. He know comprehensively the dejected despair we experience when the doctors tell us that there is no anti-dote to our disease and that we should learn to live in pain with the disease. So when we look towards Him, He will extricate us from death, which threatens to annihilate our body through weaknesses and dreadful disease. He has already enthused us by calling us: "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest"(Matthew 11:28). So do not be disheartened by any grave disease or debility; for He has experienced them already and is eager to liberate you from them and from death, which raises its ugly head through disease. Just open up your heart and cry out: "O Lord who gave Your precious life for me on the Cross, come into my heart". He will only rejoice by coming into your heart. He will heal all your diseases, by touching you with His nail-pierced, wounded hands. He will make you live with a new life, not allowing death to molest your Spirit, Soul and Body.
Prayer:
Loving Lord Jesus,
Help me to proclaim the great truth that You died for me on the Cross. You experienced all the pain in Your body only for my sake. The pain the deadly diseases bring in my life are not new to You. So, Lord, I know I will be healed very soon by Your stripes. Let me regain the spiritual values I have lost and restore in me the original first love for You. I rededicate myself at Your feet Lord. Search me and fill me with Your divine presence so that my life can reflect the Gospel. Let this Lenten season be a time of restoration and the means for renewed direction and perspective. Please guide me and make me a channel of blessing to others. Thank You for helping me to reflect Your love. In Jesus' name, I pray.
