Allow God To Open Your EyesSpeaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran Gist: Humble yourself before God. When you ask the Lord to make you holy, open your eyes, He will surely make you holy and guide you along the righteous path. 'God's anger was aroused' when the prophet Balaam, disobedient to God's will, 'rose in the morning, saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab'. The angel of the Lord took His stand in the way with His drawn sword in his hand. And when the donkey on which Balaam rode, 'saw the Angel of the Lord, she lay down under Balaam; so Balaam's anger was aroused, and he struck the donkey with his staff' (Numbers 22:21,22,27).
'Then the Lord opened the mouth of the donkey' and she began to speak to Balaam, who retorted, "I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would kill you!' The donkey asked Balaam if she (the donkey) had ever done that to him since the day he owned her. At that instant 'the Lord opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the Angel of the Lord standing in the way with His drawn sword in His hands; and he bowed his head and fell flat on his face (Numbers 28:30,31). Until God opened his eyes, Balaam did not realise that he was going on a wrong route. But when the Lord opened his eyes, he understood his mistake, and trembled.
In the same manner, God opened the eyes of Zipporah who saved the life of her husband, Moses. We learn this from the following Biblical verses: "And it came to pass on the way, at the encampment, that the Lord met him and sought to kill him. Then Zipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it at Moses' feet, and said, "Surely you are a husband of blood to me!" So He let him go. Then she said, "You are a husband of blood!" because of the circumcision" (Exodus 4:24-26). God had appeared to prophet Moses and commanded him, "I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt'. But, He tried to kill him on the way. The reason was that Moses who had seen God, 'face to face' (Numbers 12:8), broke God's covenant (Genesis 17:14) by not circumcising both his male children before setting out on his journey to Egypt. That is why the anger of God was raised against him. But in that crucial context, the eyes of his wife Zipporah were opened. She, without any delay, circumcised one male child and God went away, and the life of Moses was spared.
There was a servant of God, called Smith Wigglesworth. Once his son, George whom he loved very dearly, fell ill. Anointing him with oil, Wigglesworth prayed earnestly for him, but it was of no avail and so the father was moved with tears. In fact, the reason was this. Once when he was in a town for his ministry, he himself had fallen ill. Though several God's workers were with him, he did not have the humility to ask them to pray for him. He thought that their faith was not as intense as his own, and considered their prayers insignificant. He was not healed because he refused to humble himself before God. When, on that day, he returned home, his little son too was infected and fell ill. Even when anointing of oil did not heal his son, Wigglesworth's eyes were opened and he understood the reason immediately and pleaded with God, 'O Lord, please forgive me and save my son.' The Lord showed compassion and healed both, the father and son.
My dear friend, without holiness, no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14), without holiness, it will not be possible to do His ministry, to walk with Him, and to secure blessings and miracles from Him. So, whenever we encounter distress and pressing constraints, we should ask ourselves, 'Have I submitted myself to the will of God? Is God standing against me?' and then, humbling ourselves before Him plead with Him to open our eyes. It becomes imperative for us to pray. "O Lord, open my eyes as You opened the eyes of Balaam and Zipporah, so that I do not walk in the wrong path." Then He will make us holy, open our eyes and guide us along the righteous path.
Prayer:
Loving Heavenly Father,
You are the King of kings and the Lord of Lords. Forgive all my iniquities. Wash by Your most precious blood and make me holy. Help me to submit myself to Your holy will. Open my eyes as You opened the eyes of Balaam and Zipporah, so that I do not walk ins the wrong path. Show me the way that I must walk and help me to lead a life that is pleasing in Your sight. In Jesus' marvellous name, I pray.
Amen. |
