Jesus - The Deliverer of Your SorrowsSpeaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran Gist: Just to grant you the everlasting peace Jesus turned a 'Man of Sorrow'. The bruises and wounds which He received in His body nailed to Cross, will erase the sorrow of the heart in you, give you peace and present, a new direction to our life. "A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones." (Proverbs 17:22)
"The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, but who can bear a broken spirit?" (Proverbs 18:14)
When I was twenty, I failed in my B.Sc., exam, twice. Then I hunted for a job, which was constantly elusive. Disease in my body. My mother suffered from awful fits. My father, a poor teacher trying to make both ends meet through tiresome tuition-work. He was chronically prone to intermittent cough and vomiting blood. The sorrow of the heart overwhelmed my whole being accusing me, "You are a burden and not a blessing to your parents." I convinced myself that it was better to die than to live.
I still remember vividly, it was 12 noon on the 11th February 1955. I left my home, shedding tears and walked towards the railway track with a view to fall in front of the speeding train and end my life. Incidentally, I met my uncle on the way. Curiously, my uncle who used to dwell on Christ's love untiringly, spoke about Christ's afflictions on the cross for an hour, without having any hint about my pathetic state of mind. I now realize it was God's work. My heart was moved. I asked him, "Uncle, why did Lord Jesus die on the cross, suffering so much?" He replied, "Young man, He accepted the burden of your tribulations and bore your grief's. He was bruised for your sake." Immediately I asked my uncle a string of questions, "Will I ever secure my B.Sc., Degree? Will I ever get employed? Will my mother get released from her epilepsy?" His consoling reply was, "You yourself ask Him, "Lord, show me my defects and deficiencies. Forgive my sins. Cleanse me with Your Holy Blood." He will forgive all your sins, cleanse you with His blood and give you peace. Then He will bless you granting you all the blessings you desire."
I returned home at once, knelt down in my room and wept bitterly, "Lord, show me my real heart." The Lord in response, displayed to me in all peccadilloes and minor sins committed in my 20 years of life, rolling one after another, as though in a film scene. For four continuous hours, I was weeping my heart out bitterly. At that time, a supernatural divine presence permeated my room fully. Abiding peace which the world cannot give filled my heart. My sorrow turned into joy.
Dear friend, are you going through the same sad predicament, thinking that to die is more meaningful than to exist facing sorrow of the heart? Be not be dismayed. "The chastisement for our peace was upon Him' (Isaiah 53:5). Just to grant you peace Jesus turned a 'Man of Sorrow' , 'acquainted with grief'. The bruises and wounds which He received in His body nailed to Cross, will erase the sorrow of the heart in you, give you peace and present, a new direction to our life.

Loving Lord Jesus,
I praise You. I worship You. I adore You. Remove all my tears, troubles and confusions and fill my life with Your unchanging joy and peace. Deliver me from all my sicknesses and weakness. Help me to believe that I am healed by Your stripes. In Jesus' matchless name, I pray.
