Do Not Weary in Doing Good!

Speaker: Sis. Stella Dhinakaran

Gist: Charity to some people seems to be a great sacrifice. But charity is demanded from every child of God, as whatever is needed by others from us is an opportunity for us to serve God. Doing good is the heart of Christ.

"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." (Galatians 6:9; 2 Thessalonians 3:13)
"God will render eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality." (Romans 2:7)
"God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him." (Acts 10:38)

During our earthly lives, let us also be unwearied in doing as much good as we can to those who are living around us, just as our Lord Jesus did. Let us give what we can to those who seek our aid and fulfill their needs. One thing that we notice in this world is that most people who have enormous wealth and resources are misers at heart. Those rolling in wealth may offer a small amount of money as charity, that too in small denominations placed in big covers to impress all those who see it. They seem to forget that what they give as charity is not to man, but to the Lord of lords who has blessed them abundantly.

"Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do so." (Proverbs 3:27)
"He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord and He will pay back what he has given." (Proverbs 19:17)

Every little act of kindness you may do will bring abundant blessings from God. The Bible says, "He who does not love does not know God, for God is love" (1 John 4:8,16). When His love fills and overflow from our heart, it urges us to do good to others. It gives us strength to overlook the faults and failures in others and to forget and forgive them. It enables us to do some good through our kind words and actions at the appropriate time, which may make them realize their faults.

Abraham's wife Sarah was blessed by God and the Bible says, "As Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror" (1 Peter 3:6). Of a virtuous woman, the Bible says, "She does him good and not evil all the days of her life" (Proverbs 31:12).

I know a wife of a certain servant of God. She was brought up very fondly amidst all comforts by her parents. After marriage, her husband was doing the Lord's ministry in his spare time, and she regarded him as her lord and master of her life, even as Sarah considered her husband Abraham. She helped him in all his works and attended to all his needs considering them as her God-given mission. The Lord blessed both of them and raised the couple to great heights from their lowliness. They grew up to gain great eminence.

My dear married sisters, it does not matter what sort of a person your life partner may be; if you are to obey him as the Bible wants you to obey, do to him all the good that you can do. He may have shortcomings. Our Father in Heaven has the power to rectify them. Let us put an end of accusing our life partners and make our submissions to the Lord God. With no advice whatever, just by watching your chaste conduct, devout life and by a timely divine touch, they will change altogether. By doing this, you are doing a great favour to them as well as bringing in blessings to your family.

Another important duty cast on us is that we should never become wearied in doing good in our homes. It is very necessary that we should look after the aged with love and concern, especially the parents of our life partners who bore them and brought them up. There are countries where the old people are sent to live in old age homes. No one bothers to take care of them. Let us not be so indifferent; but realizing that it is a great blessing to have our elders with us, let us maintain them as best as we can till their last breath. In turn, when we become old, the Lord will prompt others to be kind and helpful to us. We shall lack nothing. The Lord will bless all that we do.

"Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good." (Romans 12:9)
"Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God." (3 John 11)

Dear friend, let us do good to all those who are living around us. Let us wait in God's presence and pray, "Lord! Enough of all my selfishness. It makes me to become weary in doing good. Fill me with your divine love and strengthen me to do all the good that I can do till the end of my life." God will hear this simple prayer. He will drive away all your weariness and grant you a fresh strength and power. Many people living around you, especially your own family will receive much comfort through you. They will see Christ in you and in turn, they will be filled with the love of Christ. What a blessed life it would be!

Prayer:

Loving Heavenly Father,

Many a time, I have hurt the hearts of my family members out of ignorance. I have failed to treat them with love and care. I plead for your forgiveness. Remove my anger, jealousy, hatred, selfishness and all things that are not of Your divine kingdom from my heart. Fill me with Your divine love and help me to do good to all those who are living around me till the end of my life. Guide me and bless me. I give You all the glory. In Jesus' precious name, I pray.

Amen.
