Built upon the Rock

Speaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran

Gist: In today's uncertain, stressful world, storms come in our lives in many ways and bring in sorrows shaking our basic faith in God. But when we are built on Christ the Rock, then nothing can shake us.

The Bible says, "Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it." (Isaiah 2:2)

The church we go for worship today is established on Chirst the Rock, who resides there all the time. We lived as we pleased, with no knowledge of Jesus. But He chose us. He brought us to His church and there He showers His blessings abundantly upon us.

"Even them I will bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations." (Isaiah 56:7)

Robert Clive, a British Governor who ruled India, is said to have once been a very wild and wicked young man. When he was a little boy, one day he went to a shopkeeper and demanded a certain sum of money. When he refused, Clive went to the drain nearby and lay flat. The sewage being thus blocked, swelled up and flowed into the shop. Such a rowdy was Robert Clive, who later became one of the founders of British Empire in India.

Dear friend, are you also leading a rebellious life like Clive? The gracious Lord Jesus will bring you into His house of prayer and transform your life. So, He says that it is His responsibility to rain showers of blessings on you.

A friend of mine built a house at great expense. One day, when I met him, he looked so sad and upset. When I asked him the reason, he said, "Brother, I made a mistake in buying a piece of rocky land. With great difficulty, I built the house. A well was dug up in the backyard. There was not a drop of water. What is the use of this house costing so heavy?"

It is my nature, when any one tells me of some need, I keep it in my mind and I would go on pestering the Lord in prayer until the need is met. So, I began to pray for this water problem that was torturing my friend. Many years passed by. One day, I happened to meet my friend again. I asked him about his house. He said, "Brother, in times of rain and cyclone, my house is so safe, because it has been built upon the rock. You may remember me complaining about the water insufficiency in the well. My neighbours began digging a well by blasting a rock with dynamite. It blew up the rock in my well also. Now there is water in plenty!

My dear friend, have you accepted Jesus in your hearts? If you have, then you are built on the Rock. The Bible says, "And that Rock was Christ" (1 Corinthians 10:4).

When you stand on that Rock winds may blow, storms may rage and rains may lash; lightning and thunder may strike. But you will never fall down, and your house will stand!

Prayer:

Loving Lord Jesus,

I have loved You and accepted You as my Lord and Saviour. Now I have the great hope that I am built on the Rock. Make me grow stronger in You each day and let nothing shake my faith in You. Let not the worries of the world, that come like the storms and thunder and lightning take me away from You. I give all the glory and honour to You.

Amen.
