Fulfillment of God's Will

Speaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran

Gist: Let us follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ. Let us commit ourselves completely to obey the will of God like Jesus Christ, the Son of God did. Then God would be much pleased with our life.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God was in the bosom of God in Heaven. Hence, when He understood that it was God's will that He had to go to the world in the form of man and He had to sacrifice His life for the welfare of the people, He offered Himself completely, willingly.

"And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross." (Philippians 2:8)

Accordingly, He obeyed God's will until His death. All that He did in this world was only God's will.

Once when the disciples of Jesus brought Him food, He said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work" (John 4:34).

Before He went up to the cross and when He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane for God to remove the bitter cup from Him, He cried out, "O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done" (Matthew 26:42).

He came into this world to obey God's will, by offering His life on the cross.

"Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God."
And the will of the Father was that He should take away the first law that He may establish the second. By that will we be sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all (Hebrews 10:9,10).

I once read a heart-rending incident in my English textbook. It is still fresh in my memory. Once, a captain of a ship took his only son along with him in the ship, during his vacation, in order to gladden his heart. At that time, fire broke out in one corner of the ship. Smoke clouded the entire atmosphere. Immediately he called his son and said, "Son, be here till I come back. Do not bother about what others tell you." After saying so, he went to supervise the work undertaken to extinguish the fire. As time passed by, the fire started spreading all the more. Flames of fire engulfed even the little boy. He cried out for his father "Daddy! Where are you? Fire burns me". But, his father did not come, because he had already been reduced to ashes. In that terrible situation, the little boy obeyed his father's instructions even until his death.

Even Jesus Christ, the Son of God had a similar mind. His sole aim was to obey His Heavenly Father's will. Hence, God sent Him into this world in the form of man.

My dear friend, let us think about the Lord Jesus Christ, who obeyed His Father's will, when we face such terrible situations in life.

My dear friend, the Bible says, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 2:5). Let us follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ. Then God would be much pleased with our life. Let us try to earn the good name of being 'a just man' like Joseph; adorn ourselves with humility like Mary; and commit ourselves completely 'to obey the will of God' like Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Then, God would bless us according to His promises in the Bible.

May the Almighty God prosper your life with showers of blessings!

Prayer:

Most gracious and loving Heavenly Father,

Grant me the grace to listen to Your loving gentle voice and to obey Your commandments. Grant me a heart filled with love and compassion. You came to this world in the form of a man obeying Your Heavenly Father's command. Make me to reflect Your love and Your qualities in my life. Be my guide and my fortress and keep me safe from the evil one. In Jesus' mighty name, I pray.

Amen.
