Reward for Hard Work

Speaker: Dr. Paul Dhinakaran

Gist: Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. If truly we are God's children, when we toil hard in this world, God blesses our hard labour and multiplies the fruits of our hard work in a manifold measure.

The Lord says that three things in this world shall never cease. First, the seedtime and harvest shall never cease. Second, cold, heat, winter and summer shall never cease. Third, day and night shall never cease.

Everyman in this world, as long as he lives, has to do the task of sowing and reaping what he has sown in his field of life. According to Genesis 3:19, every man in this world, all the days of his life, should sweat and toil for his survival. This is God's plan. The Bible tells us that God Himself gives us the seed to sow (2 Corinthians 9:10; Isaiah 55:10).

St. Paul writes, "Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap" (Galatians 6:7). The Bible also tells us, "He who sows iniquity will reap sorrow, and he who sows trouble will reap the same" (Job 4:8; Hosea 10:13; Proverbs 22:8).

One day, a young man was found beating his father mercilessly, by a street. A crowd gathered and asked him why he was being so heartless. Immediately the father replied, "Please allow my son to beat me. When I was young, I beat up my father in the same way, in this very same place. Today, my son is doing it to me."

Yes my dear friend, whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. One who sows trouble will reap the same. This is God's plan. It is the plan for our lives too.

But God gives us good seed to sow. He not only gives us the seed, but also grants the sunlight and makes the seed to grow (Matthew 5:45; 1 Corinthians 3:7,8). So, when we sow the seed that God gives us, added with sweat and toil, He makes the seed to grow. In this plan of God, there is one more commandment.

"The lazy man will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and have nothing." (Proverbs 20:4)

A reputed company was ever under strike. The employees were too lazy to work. Because of this, it was going on a great loss. A new manager was employed at that juncture. He looked at the state of the company and issued an order. The order goes like this, "All the employees should report for work at 10 a.m. If any person comes late even by a minute, he will be marked absent. Whoever resorts to strike, they all will be counted as absent." Once this order was implemented, the strike too was called off.

My dear friend, the one who does not sow will neither reap. The one who refuses to sweat and toil will never be blessed.

"Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him. The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous" (Genesis 26:12,13). This is the blessing that God gives to His children when they work. Their sweat shall never go in vain. Dear friend, if we are truly God's children, when we toil hard in this world, God blesses our labour and multiplies the fruits of our hard work in manifold measure. So, never cease to work!

Prayer,

Loving Heavenly Father,

I come to Your blessed presence and surrender myself at Your loving feet. Father, guide me to use the time fruitfully and to work hard and bear good fruits. Bless my hard work and give me guidance, that I, Your loving child, may hear Your counsel and obey Your commandments. Help me to sow good seeds and reap good fruits for Your everlasting glory. In Jesus' matchless name, I pray.

Amen.
