The Lord Took My Sins

Speaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran

Gist: Jesus Christ bore the grieves and sorrows of every man upon Himself. If you are grieved or sorrowed today, you can go to Him. He understands your problems very well. He will never forsake you.

Jesus said, "I am the truth" (John 14:6). He further goes on to say, "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32).
He who knows Christ as Lord personally, receives freedom.

What is Jesus Christ like? His personality expresses His person. The way He moved with people shows forth His love. Jesus said, "I lay down My life for My sheep" (John 10:15) and came into this world as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). In that form, we see the purpose of His promises, and the cross gives us the reason to believe in Him. On the cross, His appearance was marred. Nobody could bear the sight.
"He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him." (Isaiah 53:2)
"Just as many were astonished at you, so His visage was marred more than any man, and His form more than the sons of men." (Isaiah 52:14)

His face looked gory; a crown of thorns was placed on His head; blood pouring down His brow; wounds made by the Roman soldiers; like a ploughed land, His body was whipped; nails were driven into His feet and hands. The inexplicably beautiful Saviour was so much disfigured! Why did He look like that?

I read a true incident in a magazine several years ago. During hot summer, a family in a village near Thanjavur was sleeping at night with the doors of the house wide open, for want of breeze. The father was sleeping outside on the Verandah. Suddenly at midnight, their pet dog began to bark. The father, disturbed by the noise, but without opening his eyes, bid the dog to keep quiet. But that dog did not stop barking. The father got angry. When he opened his eyes, he was stunned to see his pet dog fighting with a cobra. That poisonous serpent was trying to get into the house. Had it found its way, it would have first stung the father and the whole family. That is why the dog was desperately trying to keep the cobra from entering into the house. The cobra raised his hood and stung the dog many times. The dog's body grew black due to the poison and it died. The father called for help and with the help of neighbours, killed the cobra. The father took the dead dog in his arms and wailed, "Oh! You have given your life for my sake. And just because you took the cobra bite in my stead your face has become so ugly."

In the same way, our Lord Jesus too gave His life on the cross. Sin is terrible! "The soul who sins shall die" (Ezekiel 18:20). That is why, Jesus took all our sins upon Himself (1 Peter 2:24). He was wounded for our transgressions, and was bruised for our iniquities (Isaiah 53:5).

Therefore sins shall not overtake us.

Prayer:

Loving Lord Jesus,

I come to your presence and surrender myself at your holy feet. Lord, You gave your only son's life to save me from condemnation and death. Lord, You carried all my weakness and sickness on Your body and crucified them on the cross. I am no more under sin or curse. You have redeemed me by Your precious blood. Now, I am Your property. Take me and use me according to Your will. You are my Master.

Amen.
