I Am The Way

Gist: God is in Heaven. He is invisible. But He manifested in the flesh and has made way for us to reach Him. It is for this reason that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sake. He is the Only Way.

One day, one of the disciples of Jesus came to Him and said, "Lord, where are You leaving us and going? We do not know the place You are going to. How do we know the way?" It was for this reason that Jesus said, "I am the way".

Jesus says, "I am the way. No one comes to the Father except through Me." There are two reasons for Him to say that.

The first reason is found in John 3:13. Jesus Christ is the One who came down from heaven and the Son of Man who is in heaven. He was walking on the surface of this earth as a poor carpenter's son. At the same time, He was seated upon the throne in Heaven as the Lord of lords. Jesus Christ is the Image of the invisible God. It is He who descended from Heaven. He is God manifested in the flesh (Matthew 1:23; 1 Timothy 3:16; Colossians 1:15 ; Hebrews 1:3). This is a great mystery! At the time when He was moving on earth as a carpenter's son, He was also seated as the Lord of lords in Heaven. Even though Jesus was walking on planet earth as a carpenter's son, He was still in reality God manifested in the flesh. That is why He said, "I am the way. And I know the place where God is."

Jesus said to His disciple Philip, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?" (John 14:9)
"I and My Father are one." (John 10:30)

Let us see the other reason why Jesus says, "I am the way". Moses, the servant of God, prepared a tabernacle for God. It consisted of two parts. The first was where the ark of the covenant was kept, called the Holiest of All. It was there that God used to appear to Moses and speak to him face to face (Numbers 12:8). There was a veil separating the Holy of Holies from the sanctuary. It was at this place where the high priest carried out the ceremonies for people before God. Once a year, with the blood of a bull or goat, he crosses over the veil and sprinkles the blood before the ark of the covenant and pleads God to forgive the sins of the people. But Jesus Christ, not by the blood of goats or bulls, but by His own blood shed on the cross, ascended to Heaven, encountered the veil and in that place, poured it in the awesome presence of God (Hebrews 10:12,19,21). He said, "God! Even though I am Your image, I shed My blood for the people. Look at this blood and forgive their sins. May the wall of iniquities that have separated You from the people (Isaiah 59:2) be destroyed by this blood. I have given My body as the veil to be torn on the cross. Let the veil in the tabernacle separating the sanctuary and the Holiest of All tear apart too. Make way for all those who seek You today, to approach You directly." That is why, when Jesus yielded up His spirit, the veil of the temple tore in two (Matthew 27:50,51). The barrier between man and the most Holy God came down that day. And today, anyone can go to God, in the name of Jesus.

God is in Heaven. He is invisible. But He manifested in the flesh and made way for us to reach Him. It is for this reason that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sake. He is our Way. Through Him, you can come to God and feel His presence.

Prayer:

Precious Heavenly Father,

I come to You in the name of my Lord Jesus Christ, believing that He tore His holy body to make way for me to reach You. Father, I surrender myself to accept Your will for my life. Make me holy and help me to enjoy the privileges and blessings of being Your child. I give You all the glory, honour and praise, and thank You for accepting me.

Amen.
